Avila Bay Club

We raised awareness and support for a local Non-Profit called Cancer Well-Fit, that operates right out of Avila Bay Athletic Club.

Another amazing event took place and together we raised $3,1750.50 for Cancer Well-Fit. We thank you for your ongoing support for Girls Going Greater and the non-profit organizations in our community!

Extraordinary Women gathered and it was an exceptional evening at the Avila Bay Club!

Our inspiring evening began with a Social Commons with wine and complimentary appetizers.  Cancer Well-fit, our sponsored, local non profit organization, informed us all about the work they do and the lives they touch. We learned how they provide free, supervised small-group exercise programs designed to support cancer survivors.  There was a panel of experts and survivors to educate us and answer our questions, we were able to learn about the intimate impact they have on so many lives in our community. In addition, New Life K9’s provided us with an update on the developments within their program that have been made possible from your past, generous contributions.

The Girls Going Greater Family also witnessed the unveiling of our new logo. Watch for future developments with merchandise and more.

There were fabulous gift baskets raffled. Items like Pampering/Self-Care, Home Interiors, Health and Wellness, Spontaneous Adventure and Date Night!  We were thrilled to see you all and thank you again for making a difference for Cancer Well-Fit.

Save the date for our next event scheduled for Wednesday, May 22nd at The Avila Bay Club. See you all then!

PRESENTATION

Presenter: Caitlin Johnson, RD, CLT

Caitlin Johnson is a integrative and functional medicine dietitian. What does that mean? She believes in a holistic, personalized approach to health and healing. Being in a state of good health is not just the absence of disease but requires a positive vitality. When working with clients the entire individual is considered. Everything from lifestyle, medical history, lab work, physiology, genetics and biomarkers. She firmly believes in the power of food as medicine. Healthy in = Healthy out. Food has the power to positively effect how we feel, how much energy we have and even prevent, treat and reverse many chronic illnesses. She focuses on social and emotional connections to health and not just food. Feeding your mind and soul assists you in feeding your body the best food. Let's choose pomegranates and pears over prescriptions.

Presenter: Camille Chabot, Cal Poly Graduate

Camille Chabot was diagnosed at 19 years old with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma. She had no obvious symptoms before the diagnosis, only a small lump near her throat discovered at age 18 which had inconclusive needle biopsy results. In fall 2014 Camille was forced to drop out of her sophomore year at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo just 2 weeks before her move in date so that she could immediately begin an aggressive chemotherapy treatment. After 12 rounds of IBVD, and believed to be cured, the cancer returned. A 6cm mass was found in her chest in summer 2015 and Camille had to again return from San Luis Obispo for a trial study at Stanford. On May 9th 2016 Camille had a Stem Cell Transplant at the Bone Marrow Transplant Center of Stanford Medical Oncology. The CamilleStrong hashtag has been seen in photos around the globe. And more recently, on World Cancer Awareness Day 2015, President Obama tweeted his support for our girl. Recently, Camille Chabot has received her Bachelor of Science and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Cal Poly SLO.  She plans to become an elementary school teacher.

Let's all be #camillestrong and pay it forward.
